Lies Nintendo Told Me # 1

Lie # 1 - A Plethora of Launch Games for the Wii U

I remember going to Wal-Mart to pick up my Wii U on Pre-Order through their Layaway. I was turned back at 12:10am that November 18 morning but returned at 8:00am and got it no problem. I was ready. Ready for a new system and a Christmas season of getting about 5 to 8 new games during the "Launch Window" Nintendo promised.

Here I sit today. 4 Wii U games richer. Quite a reach since the "Launch Window" was through March (I think). Besides Mario and ZombiU we have ESPN Sports....whatever, Shovel ware Funky Barn and a few other games that never interested me (AC3 I already owned on PS3, Lego City - I'm not 10, and Monster Hunter to name a few).

According to their promises at E3 2012 I should be the proud owner of Rayman Legends and Pikmin 3 by now. Are you kidding me? Reggie promised some 25 "Launch Window" games and here I sit with 4....FOUR. I'm what one would call a more conservative gamer, but even so, the games available are quite pitiful.

I read on a website that someone Jailbreaked the Wii U. I can imagine them having that Finding Nemo moment when all the fish finally reach the sea and are sitting there quietly until the one asks, "Now what?"

Rant Over

Since this is an early negative post about Nintendo, let me just say I love Nintendo. Their first party games are twenty times better than the stuff third parties are throwing our way. But I'm no blind fanboy. And neither should you be one either.

I'll probably do a few more of these "Lies Nintendo Told Me" posts in the future. When in college I had to read a book called "Lies My Teacher Told Me" for a Sociology class. I thought it was a fitting title for a little series of posts. I believe the next one could be on their initial goal of transforming how the family uses the living room.

New Blog

I don't imagine this blog might reach a lot of people. However, if for no one else, this blog is for me. It's for me to rant and complain, praise and hold up high the different things in the gaming world. I own a Wii U and a PS3 so I'll keep my observations to those two systems.

If there is any confusion, this is NOT a competitor blog. I don't want to steal readers or anything like that. Nor do I have the time to really get on the up and up about the news of two systems and their companies. No. This is just a blog for me to get out my own observations about the gaming world.

I'd like to thank Darryl and Mike over at Gaikoku Gamers for their inspiration to break away from the forum world and start a blog. Hopefully guys, if you are reading this, I'll have your blessing. If not let me know, I'd rather have your friendship than this rink a dink blog. Here's a shameless plug, check out their podcasts. Their insights are really good.

Anyways, here's to trying. Maybe I'll get a few readers, that'd be cool. Observations might be once or twice a week. Go Blog Go.
